Short of people or skills?Add a pod.

An Innovation Pod is a complete, experienced software team that works beside your developers, or becomes your whole team. It costs the same as outsourcing a single developer, and you only pay for the time you use.

02Sound familiar?

Good developers. More work than they can carry. And a wall in the way.

You've built a good team, and the business wants more from it: the launch the board is waiting for, the next product, a backlog that only grows. Then you hit the development wall. Interview after interview to land one developer, dates that slip, and your best people carrying the extra load.

01Not enough hands.

  • "Everything must be done yesterday, and the backlog keeps growing."
  • "We're hitting a wall finding people, and keeping them is just as hard." (40% of SA developers looking to leave within 12 months, OfferZen Developer Nation 2025)
  • "We need help this month, not after a six-month ramp-up." (3–9 months before a new hire is fully productive, Microsoft Research & AIHR)

02Not the right experience.

  • "We can write the code. We need someone who's architected this at scale before."
  • "We want to use AI properly, with the right guardrails."
  • "We need code reviewed by someone who didn't write it."

03More on the go than hands to deliver it.

  • "We've got more projects on the go than people to deliver them."
  • "I want to hand a whole project over without pulling my team off theirs."
  • "Every week we spend looking for people pushes our timelines out."

Already outsourcing, and want more from it? A pod can take over from your current provider without the work stopping.

03What's in a pod

The team you need, already working together.

We understand that hiring is hard, and that getting new developers up to speed takes time. That's why we built pods. A pod is already working together, so there's no ramp-up when it joins you, and it gets you over the wall. You decide how much of its time you need, and that time goes wherever your work needs it.

  1. 01

More hands. Developers who start on your backlog alongside your team.

  2. 02

The experience you're missing. Someone who has done it before, working alongside your developers: an architect for the scale-up, QA for the big release, DevOps for the move to the cloud.

  3. 03

A whole project, handed over. The pod takes the new work end to end, so your team stays on theirs. No developers of your own, or moving from another provider? The pod becomes your whole team.

04Working with you

Beside your developers, or as your whole team.

Most pods work with an in-house team. Some are the whole team. Either way, you stay in control: your code, your rules, one point of contact.

With your developers

  • Your repo, your branches, your pull-request rules
  • Your tools: Azure DevOps, Jira, GitHub, GitLab
  • Architecture decisions made with you, not for you
  • New work built on your existing code, without breaking what already works
  • Pairing and code reviews, so your developers pick up new experience while the work gets done

As your whole team

  • One project manager as your point of contact, and a clear monthly plan
  • The pod runs design, building, testing and releases, and shows you working software every sprint
  • Everything lives in accounts you own; all code and IP is yours from day one
  • Documentation as we go, so anyone can pick it up later
  • A planned handover whenever you build your own team

We lead with AI, an experienced engineer reviews every line, and your code never becomes AI training data.

05Reference work

They added a pod. Here's what went live.

More hands.

Lesaka Technologies

A JSE- and Nasdaq-listed fintech with a fixed launch gate: parallel pods worked as one team and delivered 2 days early.

06Behind the scenes

Building software is hard. Running the team behind it is harder.

Your developers are worth every bit of the effort. But hiring, onboarding, sprints, reviews, testing, keeping up with AI and looking after people is a second job on top of building your product, and it's a big part of the wall.

All of that, already handled. It costs the same as outsourcing a single developer, and you only pay for the time you use.

One outsourced developer, or a whole team? Same price.

Building the same 11-person team yourself would cost R920K–R1.15M a month in salaries alone (Codehesion sales presentation), before a single recruitment fee. Many of our clients do both: they keep growing their own team and add a pod for the peaks, the deadlines and the skills they don't have yet.

Pick the hours. Keep the whole team.

Every level gives you the whole team behind it. You choose how much of its time you need each month, and change it when your work changes. No lock-in.

  1. 01

100 hours a month. One missing skill, working alongside your team.

  2. 02

200 hours a month. A steady flow of new features.

  3. 03

  4. 04

400 hours a month. A fixed date and a lot to deliver before it.

08How to start

Try the team before you choose the size.

Start with one paid first step. You'll see how we work, then choose your pod size and skills on evidence, not on a pitch.

  1. 01

New work on the backlog: Discovery week. A Discovery week to scope the work, find the skill gaps and size your pod.

    Plan a Discovery week →
  2. 02

Existing code you're worried about, or moving from another provider: Code audit. A look at your codebase before anyone changes it, so you know exactly what you're working with and nothing breaks by surprise.

08Questions

What people ask us first.

Open a question
How much does a pod cost?

It costs the same as outsourcing a single developer, and you only pay for the time you use. You choose the hours each month, not the number of people, and you can change them from one month to the next. We'll walk you through how it's charged in the first conversation, and a Discovery week is credited against your first month.

Who exactly is in a pod?

Eleven people: a team lead and architect, a business analyst, a project manager (your one point of contact), a UX designer, a QA engineer, a DevOps engineer and five developers. Between them they cover back-end, front-end, mobile, business analysis, quality assurance, UX/UI design, DevOps and delivery management. Test automation and cloud setup come with every pod. You only use the time you need from them.

Can we add just one skill, like mobile or DevOps?

Yes. Many teams have the developers and need one piece of experience they haven't built in-house yet. Your pod's hours go to that skill only, alongside your team. 100 hours a month usually suits this. The skills a pod can bring: mobile apps, web applications, AI and automation, systems integration, data and dashboards, and platforms and SaaS.

How is a pod different from outsourcing one developer or hiring contractors?

A contractor is one person with one skill set, and you run their work. A pod is a complete team with its own project manager, QA and DevOps, so it brings the skills and runs the work with you. Code is reviewed by someone who didn't write it, tests come with the work, and if one person is away or leaves, the rest of the pod already knows your code.

What would it cost to build this team ourselves?

An 11-person team costs R920K–R1.15M a month in salaries, and recruitment fees run at 15–25% per hire, about R1.5M–R2.7M upfront for the same 11 roles (Codehesion sales presentation). Then it's 3–9 months before a new hire is fully productive (Microsoft Research & AIHR).

We already outsource our development. What does switching to a pod look like?

We start with a code audit, so we know exactly what we're taking on and nothing breaks in the handover. We agree a handover plan with you, and the pod picks up the work from your current provider without it stopping, with one point of contact and a clear monthly plan. You own all code and IP throughout. If the work needs to be taken over and put right first, project rescue is the better starting point.

Will a pod replace our developers?

No. Most of our pod clients have their own team, and keep growing it. The pod works in your repo, through your pull requests and to your standards, and shares what it knows with your developers as it goes.

We don't have a tech team. Is a pod for us?

Yes. The pod becomes your team, with one point of contact, and builds your software scalable and maintainable from the first release, so it can grow and be looked after by whoever runs it later. If you have one specific product to build, custom software development may suit you better.

How fast can a pod start?

Usually 1–4 weeks after signature. A Discovery week can start sooner.

Do we get the same people every month?

Yes. Your pod is a dedicated team, so the people who learn your product stay on it.

Which pod size should we start with?

Most clients start bigger for a build and scale down as the product settles. If you only need one skill, start small. Need more than 400 hours a month? We'll shape a larger pod with you. We'll recommend a size in the first conversation.

Can we scale up or down?

Yes, between pod levels from one month to the next, with no lock-in. Add hours for a launch, drop them when it's out.

What happens if someone in the pod leaves?

The pod works as a team, with shared documentation and code reviews, so the knowledge stays with the pod and your work carries on.

Is our code safe with your AI tools?

We lead with AI, and an experienced engineer reviews every line it produces. Your code is never used to train AI models.

Who owns the code, and can our team take over later?

You own all code and IP from day one. When you're ready, we plan the handover with you: documentation, pairing, and a smaller pod while your team takes the lead.

The launch goes out on the date the board was given. The backlog gets shorter. And the know-how stays with you, in your team and in your code.
