Liquid Capital

Stuck for months. Then unstuck.

Been stuck for months on a project that should have shipped long ago? Liquid Capital, part of the Motus group, wanted roadside assistance that works like a modern app. We rebuilt it and took it all the way to production.

Roadside help that works like a modern app

The business wanted roadside assistance to work like a modern app: a customer asks for help from their phone and sees it coming. After its previous partners let it down, it was still waiting for something it could put in front of a customer.

They'd been stuck for months.

04The impact we made

We got them unstuck.

Trying again on the same footing would most likely have stalled again, so we built the customer, driver and control-room products together, with security designed in from the first sprint, through independent penetration testing and into production.

And we set the code standards their own developers now work to, so it stays that way long after the rescue.

What they have now is a platform that works, and the standards to keep it working.

05

How we built it

Roadside assistance serves three groups at once, and each depends on the other two working in real time. So we built for all three together, around a few principles that held from the first sprint.

Built as one platform for everyone involved

Customers, operators and the roadside team all work on one shared platform. A change is made once and reaches everyone, which is also what lets the same platform carry more than one brand without becoming more than one product to maintain.

Everyone sees what's happening as it happens

We designed for real time from the start. Availability, location and job status move between everyone involved as they change, so nobody works from a picture that's minutes old, and nobody has to phone to find out what's happening.

Every hand-off is checked

Every time a job changes hands, the platform confirms it's the right person, the right cover and the right help, using the records the business already keeps, so every hand-off can be trusted.

Testing that covers the web and the apps

Automated tests run across the web portal and the mobile apps with every release, so a change for one audience can't quietly break another. The apps move through each store's release process on a steady release rhythm.

Security was part of the design

The platform handles personal and location data, so it was never going to reach production without serious scrutiny. Security was part of the design from the start, and the platform went through independent penetration testing on web and mobile before go-live.

Released in phases

Each phase went live in production before the next began, so the business always had a working platform and never waited on one big release. New work landed on a platform customers were already using, without disturbing it.

An Innovation Pod working with their team

One Innovation Pod covered every discipline the platform needed, working closely with the client's own team. As the platform settled, the pod's size flexed with the work, so they only carried the capacity each stage called for.

Standards their developers now use

We wrote the code standards and technical documentation and handed them over, and their own developers now work to them. We also keep the apps ahead of the stores' platform requirements, so nothing falls out of compliance.

06

Help is on its way, and the customer can see it

A customer taps for help, sees the nearest operator accept, and watches them arrive on a map with an arrival time.

Three motor brands run on the platform, each under its own name.

Every customer can see who's coming, and when.

07

Kept on after the rescue

With the platform live and their team working to our standards, we now look after it as their support partner, on call for whatever they build next.

08

Keep going
